2009 Activities
July 18-19

USDF Region 1 Youth Championships: This "Youth only" show is fun ... no need to qualify ... open to all levels of riders ... team & individual competitions.

The Region 1 Youth Team Championship Show (R1YTC) was wonderful, with 8 young women attending ranging in age from 16 - 20, and on horses that showed at Training and First Levels. We again had two teams, one of which was Champion of their division and the other team was third in their division. We also had many individual winners of high score for the day/show/division and won the "Cleanest Tack" award. All 8 of the girls had a truly great time...especially participating in their victory gallops (!)

July 22-26

Road trip to the North American Junior Young Riders Championships: Join a group of youth members who are driving to Lexington, KY to audit the NAJYRC's.

The "Road Trip" to the NAJYRC initially got a fairly good response...such that I actually blocked 4 rooms at a hotel thinking that we'd have at least 10 youth members attending. Unfortunately, we had only 3 members who actually ended up going...but for those three it was a profound experience. I can't describe how "empowered" those 3 youth riders felt by being there, and wish so much that we could have gotten more of our junior/young riders there to share in that. It was also nice to be there to support our two NC juniors who were competing, Alison Coyle and Kaitlin Blythe, and to have them directly share their experiences with us. I hope that in the future we can somehow get more of our junior and young riders to attend the NAJYRC's, both as spectators and competitors...it is such a wonderful foundation for competing at the FEI levels.
